About
C. Gesner Obituary
Born in Fall River she was the daughter of the late Norval G. Gesner, Jr. and the late Margaret (Glynn) Gesner. A top ten graduate of the former Mount St. Mary's High School in Fall River, she graduated from St. Anne's Hospital School of Nursing, received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Salve Regina College in Newport and later received her Master's Degree in Nursing from Boston College.
A nurse specializing in Nephrology and Dialysis Care, Ms. Gesner had also done some advanced study of nephrology at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital now Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston where she worked for 30 years and was selected to tour China with other medical and scientific specialist from 17 states. She toured Beijing, Shanghai, and other Chinese cities visiting several medical centers. Ms. Gesner was also employed with Hyannis Hospital for ten years until her retirement in 2003. Most recently she served as a United States Citizen Ambassador to the People's Republic of China at the Invitation of the Chinese Association of Science.
Surviving are three brothers, Charles H. Gesner of Jupiter, FL, Dr. Bruce D. Gesner and his wife Phyllis of Reno, NV, Glynn Gesner and his wife Maureen of Mansfield, MA and a sister Deborah A. Duffy and her husband Ed of Southbury, CT and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 9 a.m. from the WARING-SULIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRYPLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting Hours Thurs. 4-7 p.m. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be made to Brigham & Women's Hospital Dialysis Research Fund, c/o Development Office, 116 Huntington Ave., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02116.
