Malvina DeSista

DeSISTA, MALVINA 96, originally from North Providence RI, passed away peacefully the evening of August 6, 2008 at the Scandinavian Home in Cranston where she lived for the last year. Born September 23, 1911, she was the wife of the late Gaetano DeSista.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Apice) Ramona and sister to the late Ernest Ramona. Mel, as she was known by her family and friends, was a resident of Narragansett for many years. She was employed by the Narragansett Public School System as the Chief Cook where she prepared meals for 550 school children from eight schools, five days a week. Following that career, she was the domestic caretaker for St. Philomena's and St. Sebastian's Rectories respectively. During World War II she became a Gold Star Mother and many times represented the group during the Narragansett Parade where she would toss the ceremonial wreath over the sea wall honoring all spouses lost at war.

She is survived by her loving son Angelo A. DeSista, and his wife Carol (Vellone) DeSista, granddaughters, Michele Carbone & Lisa Swift, grandson Tony DeSista and her cherished 5 great grandchildren. Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 am from The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Paul's Church One St. Paul's Place. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Francis Cemetery Peace Dale. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrated her life Sunday from 4-7 pm
