Rose Hinckley Obituary

HINCKLEY, ROSE MARIE 92, died peacefully on August 8, 2008 at Heatherwood Nursing Center, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late C. Harold Hinckley and Joseph A. Palombo.

Born March 16, 1916 in Providence, RI, she was a daughter of the late Felice and Maria (Lepore) Carnevale. She resided in Jamestown for the past 38 years, previously living in Providence and then moving to Newfoundland, Canada where she lived for 20 years.

Rose was educated in Providence, RI, a graduate of Central High School. She worked in the restaurant business during the 1940s and 1950s as a hostess at various prominent Rhode Island restaurants including the former Ambassador Inn in North Providence. She also worked in the retail garment business in Providence as a buyer of womens apparel.

After Mr. Hinckleys retirement, they moved to Jamestown, RI where she became very active in St. Mark Church as Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister and Lector, serving on the Cemetery Committee and working tirelessly for St. Mark Parish. Rose was an active member of the Jamestown Seniors Association and worked for the Voter Registry and Board of Canvassers of RI. She volunteered for 15 years at St. Josephs Soup Kitchen in Newport, RI, delivered food for Meals on Wheels and worked for the Red Cross. Rose was an avid gardener and won many awards while active in the Jamestown Garden Club.

She leaves a son, Paul J. Palombo of Jamestown, RI; a daughter, Jo-Ann (Palombo) Burns and son-in-law Kevin M. Burns of Newport, RI. She was also the mother of the late Mary Palombo and Patricia Ann Palombo. She is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Pilkington and Evelyn Cafferty of Providence, and Teresa Albanese of North Providence. She was the sister of the late Josephine A. Sullivan, her twin, Mary Bibeault, Victoria Rocchio and brother, the Reverend Thomas J. Carnevale. Many nieces and nephews survive her.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, RI. Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery. I met Rose in Jasper, IN some years ago while she was visiting ner son Paul. We kept in touch and spoke on the phone several times.
On hearing of her death I offered a holy Mass for the repose of her soul and I will always keep her in my prayers.
May she rest in Peace!
