To my dear old friends, Janice and Donna,
When I saw your mom’s obituary last week, so many thoughts and memories came back to me that I’ve waited almost a week to try to put my thoughts in order to express my feelings on the passing of your mom; my old friend Gloria.
Please know that although we may not realize it at the time, our lives, and the manner in which we conduct ourselves, do have an impact on those we leave behind.
And please know that your mom had an impact on me.
When we were young, and trying to find our way in the streets of Conimicut, “Gloria’s house” was the only place that we could go to just be ourselves with no fear of judgment. Gloria had a way of making every one of us feel as though we were her kids. As I sit here watching the 2008 Olympics, I remember the first Olympics that I ever seriously watched in 1964 was in that little house on Opper Avenue with Gloria, Moe, Arlene, you guys, and all the other kids in the neighborhood. My God, how fast the years have gone by.
But always know that regardless of the number of years that have passed, I will always remember the lessons that Gloria taught to all of us when we were young and thought we knew everything; and how she opened her house to all of us, at a time when we just needed someone to talk to. She was always there for us. She helped to shape my life, my values, and helped to make me the person that I am today. And believe me, I will always remember her as a friend.
Stay well.

We are sorry that you lost Aunt Gloria. She was an awesome woman. When we were kids, at cookout, she always threw change in the pool for all the kids to get. We loved seeing her. We are the girls of Debra Porter (Shippee)

Dear Janice, Donna and Marge,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your mother and friend. Gloria was such a big part of our growing up. I'll never forget the great meatballs, pepperoni and sausage that she made while we were hanging out listening to Janis Joplin. I still think of Gloria when I hear a Janis Joplin song. Jack and I had many laughs at the parties at Marge's.
I'll never forget that great smile and warm hug.
Sincere sympathy and warm thoughts to all of you.
Love, annie and jackie tella
