Jane Pezzullo Obituary

PEZZULLO, JANE L., 62, of Adelaide Avenue, died peacefully on August 14, 2008 at home surrounded by her devoted family. She was the loving wife of Thomas M. Pezzullo.

Born in Bangor, ME, a daughter of the late Walter L. and Arlyne (Dow) Dickson, she lived in Barrington for 37 years.

Mrs. Pezzullo was a dedicated teacher at Primrose Hill School, Barrington for 31 years before retiring in 2001.

Jane was a graduate of the University of Maine at Gorham in 1967 and received her Masters in Education from Rhode Island College in 1986.

Jane was an avid reader and regular contributor to her book discussion group. She was a long time downhill skier, swimmer and walker. She always looked forward to her summers in Maine with her family where she was known as 'Janie.' While in Maine, Janie enjoyed hiking, kayaking and traveling with her sisters. She would accompany her sisters in a canoe while they fished at Daicey Pond in Baxter, ME. Her greatest outdoor achievement was summiting Maine's highest peak, Mount Katahdin, with her two sisters Joan and Jean.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the many friends, caregivers and visiting nurses who have provided strength and support to Jane and her family during her courageous and dignified battle with cancer. Jane was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her throughout her life.

Besides her husband of 34 years, she is survived a daughter; Jessica (Pezzullo) Fontes and her husband Jeffrey of Barrington, two granddaughters; Gracie Jane Fontes and Natalie Elizabeth

Jean: You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I obviously never met your sister personally, but I have heard stories of things you did together and I saw your smile when you spoke of her and I know she brought you and others much joy. Peace be with you all during this time.

Dear Jessica, Tom and Family,
I feel so lucky to have been one of the many people that Jane 'taught.' in life. She was among many other wonderful traits, kind, comforting, beautiful and warm. I could always make her laugh and she would always make me feel special. Although I already miss her very much, I look forward to seeing her spirit shine through Jessica and her little girls.
Sincerely,
Andrew

She was easily one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. She was just great. Mrs. P, as we called her, was strict, but kind and warm. I haven't forgotten learning from her and I know I never will.

Moving to barrington in 1993 we became Tom and Jane`s neighbors and what a delight it was to get to know them both, we were so blessed to get her input on our children moving thru the school system here. My most treasured memories will be our conversations of her love for God, Christ and the church she attended. She truly lived the life of a follower.
Our deepest sympathies to all the family, especially Tom and Jessica.

Dear Tom, Jessica, Jeannie

As you know, I did not get to know Jane after she was already homebound, as it was her illness that brought me into your home. Even though my role was to help Jane find that balance between activity and comfort, the fact is that I always left wondering who gave more to whom; Jane 's focus always extended beyond herself as we'd share stories about family, a mutual love of reading, appreciation of the outdoors, food, ideas, Maine, and swimming. She never ever complained about her lot in life, and I always left feeling honored and inspired for being even a small part of her life. SHe lived with purpose, grace, and kindness, with a sense of humor and an amazing perspective about what matters in life. Jane lived and died surrounded by your love and care and I am sure she is at peace. My heartfelt sympathy to all of you for your loss.

Dear Mr. Pezzullo,

My deepest sympathies for you and your family in this time of great loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was so sad to hear about Jane's passing. I am an occupational therapist and I along with Colleen (physical therapist) worked with Jane when she was at St. Joseph's hospital inpatient rehab in Providence about 2 years ago now. We even came out to your lovely home in Barrington to complete a safety home assessment. I have never forgotten Jane and wanted you to know she was often in my thoughts and prayers. I learned a lot from working with her and your family during that challenging time. Take care and know you have lots of love and support surrounding you during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Jerilyn Cao

Dear Tom, Jessica and family,
We are heartbroken at the loss of Jane. Her gifts of laughter, beauty, patience, brilliance and kindness will live on in all whom she touched... cherished gifts from a perfect lady. Walking, swimming, skiing... cooking, baking, reading... teaching, learning, adventuring... Jane had a joy for life and love of life that will always be contagious. What a wonderful legacy. To our friend and former neighbor... Godspeed, Jane. Heaven just welcomed its newest Holy Angel.

Mention Janie and my first memory is what a patient and wonderful little girl she was; give her a cookie and she had the biggest smile. I also remember the swims and a special walk in the snow. Peace - Love -
