Marie Ryan Obituary

RYAN, MARIE (HALLORAN), 87, of Apple Tree Court, died Sunday at South County Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul R. Ryan (former State Representative and owner of Ryan's Market).

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Ethel (Sprague) Halloran.

Mrs. Ryan was a Bookkeeper at Ryan's Market for 12 years until her retirement. She attended Pembroke College, now Brown University, and served in the Womens Air Corps during WW II. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich for 40 years. Mrs. Ryan was a volunteer at Kent Hospital for 15 years, serving 2500 hours and was a member of the D.A.R. R.I. Independence Chapter in Cranston and the Mayflower Descendent Society. She loved reading, golf, and spending time in Bonnet Shores.

Mrs. Ryan devoted her life to her family and was the loving mother of Barry W. Ryan of New Lenox, IL, Melodie R. Thomas of North Kingstown, and Gregory E. Ryan and his wife Sandra of Richmond. Cherished grandmother of Lisa, Christopher, Michael, Dawn, and Michelle and great grandmother of Ashlyn and Kayla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernard Church, 415 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday 4-7 p.m. in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to South County Hospital, Attn: Development Office, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879 would be appreciated. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
