E. Forrest Obituary

FORREST, E. RAYMOND 94, of Tiverton, RI, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA. He was the beloved husband of Marie (Sullivan) Forrest for 68 years. He was born in Newport, RI, son of the late Elizabeth (Dwyer) and Edwin R. Forrest. He was a communicant of St Christopher's Church in Tiverton.

Mr. Forrest was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Naval Reserve from 1935 until being called to active duty in 1941. He served in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and South Pacific. He received medals for the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign and the American Campaign. He participated in the rescue of sailors from the USS Indianapolis. At the age of 15 he started driving a truck for his Grandfather Dwyer's pickle business in Fall River, selling to stores throughout New England. He later worked with his Uncle Frank Dwyer selling mill machinery throughout the South.

He worked for and became manager of the Pequot Bottling Co. of Fall River from 1948 to 1960. During that time he served two terms as president of the Fall River Kiwanis Club. He was a member of Toastmasters International.

He was later employed by the Fall River National Bank and retired in 1978.

Mr. Forrest was a member of the Stone Bridge Fire District Water Board for more Than 30 years, serving as its treasurer for most of his time there. He was clerk of the Tiverton High School Building Committee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Mary Turcotte and her husband David of So. Dartmouth, MA, Raymond Forrest and his wife Rita of Tiverton, RI, Paul Forrest of Fall River, Peter Forrest and his wife Kathleen of Tiverton and Mark Forrest of Cambridge, MA. He is also survived by his granddaughters Caroline Turcotte and Sarah Forrest, grandsons Raymond, Matthew and Alexander Forrest, greatgrandaughter Hannah Forrest and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Audrey Cookson of Marsten Mills, Murial Porter of Newport, RI. He was the brother of the late Virginia Heffernan and Donald Forrest. Visitation THURSDAY 5-8PM His Funeral will be held FRIDAY at 9am from the POCASSET MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME 462 Main Rd, Tiverton with a 10 am Mass at St Christophers Church, Tiverton.
