Nicholas DelRe Obituary

DelRe, NICHOLAS M., of Johnston, R.I. and Surfside, Florida passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Formicola) Vinciguerra and the late Rose DeMatteo.

Born in Barrington, R.I., Nicholas was the son of the late Domenico and Concetta (Martone) DelRe. He was a graduate of Barrington High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was stationed in Europe. Following his return from the war, he attended Johnson & Wales University and began his career with Clifford Metal in Providence, as their Chief Sales Director. He was employed there for 41 years before retiring.

An avid golfer, Nick belonged to the Metacomet Country Club in East Providence for 40 years. Nicholas was a well-respected gentleman and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and associates. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Johnston, R.I.

Besides his wife Dorothy, he is survived by his sister Ann DelRe of East Providence, to whom he was loyal and devoted, his daughter Michelle Gelfuso and her husband John of Warwick, R.I., his step-daughter Carlotta Leyden and her husband Major John J. Leyden Jr. of N. Kingstown. He was the cherished grandfather of John J. Leyden III. He was predeceased by his brother Carmen DelRe of Barrington.

Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at 10 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston, R.I. Internment will follow at Santa Maria delCampo Cemetery, Uplands Way, Barrington, R.I. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Church emergency food shelf. Arrangements by Gattone-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Cranston.
