John Ort Obituary

ORT, JOHN C., 61, of Little Compton, RI passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at St. Anne's Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer. He was husband of Deborah (Curt) Ort.

Born in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Richard S. and Helen L. (Baker) Ort, he grew up in Buffalo prior to moving to Portsmouth, RI and residing in Little Compton for the past 12 years.

He was an electrical engineer for Raytheon in Portsmouth for 30 years. Mr. Ort was a member of the Little Compton United Congregational Church and was active in Little Compton town government serving as chairman of the Budget Committee and Pension Committee and also as treasurer of the Republican Town Committee. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and hiking, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his children and family.

Including his wife, survivors include a son: Richard J. Ort of NH; a daughter: Jennifer C. Ort of DE; a step-son: Thomas C. Toupin of E. Providence, RI; a step-daughter: Brooke M. Toupin of Tiverton; a brother: James R. Ort of Orchard Park, NY; and 2 grandchildren: Finn Toupin and Tagel John Ort.

Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Little Compton United Congregational Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hudner Oncology, St. Anne's Hospital, 795 Middle St., Fall River, MA 02721.
