Mary Dunn Obituary

DUNN, MARY COOPER, of Little Compton, Rhode Island, born September 7, 1920, died September 13, 2008 peacefully in her home. She was the wife of the late Ward William Dunn.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Maurice D. and Marion Lewis Cooper, Mary spent her youth in Pittsburgh, and then lived in the Western U.S. and abroad after her marriage in 1945. Mrs. Dunn summered in Little Compton, Rhode Island for several years, moving there permanently in 1984.

She was a graduate of the Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh and Mt. Holyoke College, Class of 1942. She served in the United States Navy WAVES during World War II. She loved gardening and was an avid golfer and tennis player. She was a member of the Acoaxet Club in Westport and the Sakonnet Golf Club in Little Compton.

Mary is survived by her son, Ward W. 'Bill' Dunn, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and her daughters, Anne Dunn Lamont of Burlington, VT, Alison L. Dunn of Lexington, KY and Mary Catherine 'Kate' Dunn of Brooklyn, NY, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law- Marie Mc Cook Cooper, 1 niece and 2 nephews-Marianna Howland and John and Daniel Cooper, and her companion Thomson Whitin of Little Compton, RI. She was also sister of the late Maurice D. and John L. Cooper.

Her Memorial Service will be held SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the United Congregational Church, The Commons, Little Compton, RI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Congregational Church P.O. Box 506, The Commons, Little Compton, RI 02837. Arrangements in the care of Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute, Fall River.
