From so long ago, coming to Great Island, Gentle Pat and his Mary were there when we arrived...a sure sign that everything was OK and nothing much had changed. We feel a great loss now without Pat and hold Mary and her family close to our hearts in love and sadness.

Dear Mary,

It is with sad heart that I learned today from Alice Westervelt about Patrick's death. I somehow missed seeing the obituary and regret that I couldn't be present at his funeral. To read in the guest book the messages from family and friends makes one realize how far the light of a good man can shine. I hope that you are finding some comfort in that.

October 1, 2008

Robin and I were so devastated to receive the news of Pat's death. Even though we had heard he was ill, we were sure that he would be around forever. For as long as we can remember, Pat was a part of our summers and our lives. I have seldom known such a kind and dear man as Pat. Robin's mother loved him and so did mine-we used to have a chat about things most mornings--it made one's day start right. It is almost impossible to imagine Great Island without him and we will miss him more that we can possibly say. He was so proud of Brian and Annie, and of course so loved Mary-these are qualities that one does not forget. Our hearts go out to all of you. With much love and condolences.

A gentleman, Pat... soft-spoken star with the heart of an angel.

As sure as he ever welcomed me with a lively, warm word and twinkling eye, they must have oiled the hinges to open the gates extra wide for Patrick Coyle.

Such fondness accompanies my memories of him! His kind spirit will be missed.
Warm wishes to Mary, Anne and the rest of his family.
