Laura Nadeau Obituary

NADEAU, LAURA 'LAURIE' CARON of Davis Rd., N. Scituate, RI went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 23, at the age of 99 in the care and company of her loving family. Laura maintained a reverential way of living and will long be remembered for her gracious and gentle spirit.

The youngest of five brothers and two sisters, she was born in Lac Baker, New Brunswick, Canada and graduated from Provincial Normal School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada in 1926. She taught school in New Brunswick and was a member of the Town Players where she had the lead in a play entitled, La Chaumiere Bretonne. She also performed in musicals and enjoyed a proficiency in dancing jigs.

In 1930, she married her childhood sweetheart Emile (Pete) Nadeau and they lived in Pittsfield, MA until 1971. While in Pittsfield, Laura was a member of Notre Dame Church, the Ladies of St. Anne, and the Franco American club. There she taught French to area businessmen in order to help them communicate with the fast-growing French population. She and her husband retired to Florida in 1971.

She is survived by two daughters, Rena M. Haines of Pittsfield, MA and Gail M. Beaudet of N. Scituate, RI in whose care she lived for 18 years. She leaves four grandchildren: Joyce M. Raftery, Judith M. Martinelli, Stephen S. Haines, and Zachary J. Howarth. Also surviving her are five great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Augustine Church, which is located at 635 Mt. Pleasant Ave, Providence, RI on October 9, 2008 at 10am. The family would like to thank the following members of the Hospice team: Barbara, Annette, Liz, Sally, Judy, Rene, Kristen, Wendy, Denise, and Karen. And a very special thanks to our angel, Suzanne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 169 George St, Pawtucket, RI, 02860. For on line expressions of sympathy, visit boyleandsonfuneralhome.com
