Barbara Weedon Obituary

WEEDON, BARBARA JENCKS, 87, of North Kingstown, died on October 5, 2008.

She was born in Pawtucket to Louise and Charles Jencks, attended the Lincoln School, and graduated from Smith College, Class of 1943. She was previously married to D. Reid Weedon and lived in Winchester and Duxbury, MA for most of her life.

Barbara was active as a volunteer at the Winchester Senior Center and the Cranberry Hospice Program. She tutored children who needed assistance with reading skills. She loved sailing, was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed birding, knitting, tennis, yoga, and gardening.

Barbara was a member of the First Congregationalist Church in Winchester and the Unitarian Church in Duxbury. She was a member of World Without War and supported causes such as The Heifer Project, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, and research on Alzheimer's Disease. She was an active member of Mass. Audubon and Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences.

Barbara is survived by her son Charlie Weedon of Pomfret, CT, daughter Sally Weedon of Exeter, RI, daughter-in-law Sue Devokaitis, granddaughter Emily Devokaitis Weedon of Washington, DC, and dear friend Deirdre Robinson. She was predeceased by her brother, Davis Jencks, of Seekonk, MA. She will be missed by many others who loved her.

A memorial service will be held at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, at 10 AM on October 25, 2008.
