Iris Shanley Obituary

SHANLEY, IRIS R. (O'GARA) 85, formerly of Chestnut Road, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Shady Acres Nursing home, West Kingston. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Shanley.

Born in New Orleans, LA she was a daughter of the late Martin and May (Fox) O'Gara.

Mrs. Shanley graduated from St. Xavier Academy and St. Joseph School of Nursing. She received additional training in nursing when she served in the US Navy.

She was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church.

She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Shanley-Szala and Alan Szala of West Kingston; two brothers, William and Jack O'Gara both of Pawtucket; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edward and James O'Gara.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours Tuesday, October 14, 2008 from 8:30 to10:30am in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., St. 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 or the American Heart Association, 222 Richmond Street, Providence, RI 02903 will be appreciated. Sue, I will always remember Aunt Iris (my nurse relative!) with fondness. I also remember all the fun we had as kids when we did the relative visitations on Sundays and holidays. Know we have a great, strong family who loves you. I wish I could be there as you were for us last month.
