Lonnie Newman Obituary
Lonnie was an auto mechanic for Kmart. He served as; Most worshipful Past Grand Master of The Rhode Island Grand Lodge, PHA Past Master of Celestial Lodge No. 2, Providence, RI. Past Commander-in-chief of Mount Sinai Consistory No.12; Member of Areme Chapter No. 3, Order of the Eastern Star. A 33 degree Mason. He was also stage Manager for the Scitamard Players of Providence for many years, and a Member of the Union Baptist Church of Pawtucket, RI.
He leaves behind a daughter Michele S. Cabral of Ashburn, VA and a son Lonnie J. Newman, Jr. of Livermore, CA, a brother Lloyd Green of Chicago, IL, two grandchildren Marc Cabral of Tampa, FL and Taylor Newman of Livermore, CA, one great-granddaughter Tennae Cabral; and a host of other relatives and friends. Lonnie and his beloved wife Barbara devoted much time to traveling. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Services with military honors will be held Wed. Oct. 22, 2008 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. at 2:00 p.m. In which Lonnie and Barbara will be Inurnment in the Columbarium, together eternally. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: MWPH Grand Lodge, c/o MWGM Herbert Underwood, 883 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02905.

Lonnie Jr: sorry to read of your Dad's passing. I met him many years ago, when he was Manager of the auto dept at Zayres in Fall River.

I'm sorry to read of Lonnie's passing. I worked with him briefly 30 years ago at the Kmart in Seekonk. He made a lasting impression on me as a kind and principled gentleman. May the Lord welcome him with open arms.
