Payton Watson Obituary

WATSON, PAYTON ELIZABETH, 11, of Shady Cove Road, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 19, 2008 surrounded by her loving family after a 2 year and 1 day battle of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.

She fought her disease with phenomenal strength, courage and hope. She had an incredible zest for life and enormous love for her friends and family. She would have celebrated her 12th birthday on November 18.

Born in Providence, she was the beloved daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Goode) Watson and the cherished sister of Frankie Watson.

Payton was a seventh grader at Wickford Middle School where she was a member of the yearbook committee and the Leadership program.

Payton enjoyed arts and crafts, swimming, going to the beach and Disney World. An avid soccer player, she had been playing since she was three years old. She dreamed of traveling to Paris, but her favorite place was home.

Besides her parents and sister, she leaves her maternal grandmother, Frances Goode of Jamestown; and aunts and uncles, Ellen and Bill House of Jamestown, Barbara and Dan Tanguy of Boynton Beach, FL, Cathy Goode of Jamestown, Theresa Botelho of Portsmouth, Timothy and Robert Goode both of Jamestown. She was the sister of the late Benjamin Watson and the paternal granddaughter of the late Benjamin and Bertha Watson. She also leaves her first cousins, Billy House, Ellen Andersen, Carl and Gage DeVellis, Rachel and Jeff Smithson, Ken and Steven Lerner, and Paul Botelho, as well as other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 10am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. My heart goes out to your family. For whatever reasons God sometimes takes our children. Maybe our children have acomplished what they were sent here to do, in a very short time. For the rest of us it takes longer to acomplish that. We will never understand. Payton's spirit and courage made a difference in this world and we will remember her for that!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Payton was a great friend. We are so very proud of her. We would never be able to be as strong and brave as her. We all thought she was; pretty, funny, kind, intelligent, generous, brave, strong, a great soccer player, and a great friend. We have all participated in pennies for patients for Payton. She was a great class mate. There is no way anyone can forget Payton Elizabeth Watson. We all miss you Payton.
