PACKER, JOHN R., of Young Street, Pawtucket died Monday October 20, 2008 at home.
He was born in New London, CT., son of the late Ralph and Veronica (Apsit) Packer. Mr. Packer was a musician with The Dunn-Packer Band who indentified with the Chicago Blues Movement and who was known for his work on guitar and base. He toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad with the Duke Robillard and Jimmy Rogers bands and produced his own music under the Hayward Label. While in Amsterdam, he teamed with Keith Dunn and together produced the recording, 'Love Against the Wall' and toured Europe playing and promoting the musical genre of the blues.
Mr. Packer leaves one brother, Giles Packer of Farmington, CT, one sister, Diana Packer of Newburyport, MA as well as his nephew Daniel Packer in St. Petersberg, FL.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. at THE MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI to which friends and relatives are invited. For directions and guestbook, visit www.manning heffern.com

I really enjoyed playing music with John. He was a real gentleman and a friend. I’ll miss him.

The first time I saw John play bass, and being a bass player myself, I though, "Man...that guy's the BOMB!"
He continued to amaze me every time I saw him play. He was an artist in every sense of the word. Whenever we ran into each other, he'd always have a warm smile for me. He will be missed!
