Ernie Gavitt has been, and will always remain, a highly respected and a wonderful "Special Person" for Lester Jr. and Robert Chapman. During their respective U S Military Service in the UK and Germany in the mid-1950's, they have visited the WW II US Bomber airfields and the German POW and (Concentration Camps) and have developed a lasting appreciation for the US Airmen who played such an important part in defeating the terrible Nazi dictatorship, and who bravely survived POW imprisonments in Germany.
This knowledge helped us to develop an enormous and lasting bond with Ernie. We regard him as being our special link to the many other USA aircrew heroes of WW II.

Whenever we visited the USA and the Gavitt's marvelous Snug Harbor Homestead, Ernie's wonderful congeniality, along with Arline's great hospitality, were always among the highpoints of our trips.

We extend our sincere condolences to Arline and her Family upon their loss.
In closing, we salute our hero Ernie, and bid a sad farewell to a great and dear ,Special Person.
