John Mitchell Obituary
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Theresa (O'Hare) Mitchell.
A European History Teacher, Mr. Mitchell taught at Johnston High School for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He served in The United States Army during the Korean War and was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Providence College. He was a member of St. Gregory The Great Church, where he served as a facilitator for the Share The Word Group, and was also a volunteer driver for West Bay Community Action.
He was the loving father of Michael D., Joseph D., and John D. Mitchell and Margaret (Mitchell) Espinoza. Caring brother of Joseph, Charles, T. Elizabeth, and Margaret Mitchell. Cherished grandfather of three.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9:45 a.m. from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Gregory The Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial, with military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to McAuley House, P.O. Dear Jean--I only just learned of the passing of John and we (of the Mellor family) wish to extend our condolences. He was wonderfully kind and gentle but a man who was so connected to the spiritual community. He will be greatly missed. We did not go to the services because we are--at present--in NC, at our retirement home. But know we have you in our thoughts and prayers. Again, we are sorry for your loss.

Mrs. Mitchell and family...
It was with great sadness that I heard of John's passing. My husband and I have fond memories of all the good times we had with John at various occasions connected with Johnston High School. I taught with him for 30 years and remember fondly all the various activities connected with JHS.
