Joseph Cicchelli Obituary

CICCHELLI, JOSEPH C., 83, of Cranston and Narragansett died Wednesday, October 30, 2008 in Bristol after a long illness. He was the husband of Phyllis (Zammiello) Cicchelli.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Cosimo and Theresa (Mattera) Cicchelli, one of four children; he was the brother of Raymond Cicchelli of CT and Carl and Donald Cicchelli, both of Cranston.

Besides his wife and brothers, he is survived by his daughter Sondera (Petteruti) Weiner; four grandchildren, Evonne, Alexis and Nikki Weiner, and Erika Petteruti; daughter-in-law Joan Petteruti; and step-grandson Ronnie Rampone. He was the father of the late Robert A. Petteruti.

A graduate of RISD, class of 1951, he received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture with high honors. In 1943 while a student at Brown University he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS William C. Cole, receiving WW-II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and Asiatic Theatre Medal.

He opened his office in the Arcade in Providence. Later, he was associated with C. E. Maguire, but his true passion was his employment of 25 years with The Robinson Green and Baretta Corporation. His projects included Lake Placid Olympics, Providence Citizens Plaza, Blue Cross Building and Housing for the Elderly. He was a founding member of Holy Apostles Church and building committee member. He was a member of American Institute of Architects, the Brown Faculty Club, Barrington Symphony Orchestra, and taught evening classes at Roger Williams University. He also was a stage designer for Bright Lights Theatre.

Joseph was a gentle, loving and caring man who lived his life with discipline. He loved and was loved by his family and devoted his leisure time teaching his grandchildren cribbage, jumbles and art. He resided in Cranston for 37 years before moving to Narragansett permanently. He resided at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol since April, where he received outstanding professional medical and personal care in a cordial home environment.

His funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Apostles Church, Cranston at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS SUNDAY 5-8 p.m.
