Efstathios Marses Obituary

MARSES, EFSTATHIOS C. 'STEVE' 75, of Raven Circle, Cranston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 surrounded by his family at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Haveles) Marses; they would have celebrated their forty-seventh wedding anniversary on this day.

Born in Sykea, Greece, he was a son of the late Constantine and Ekaterina (Stappas) Marses. Mr. Marses was a co-owner of Royal Lunch of Providence for twenty years. He was also the owner of Royal Poultry, Inc. of Cranston for thirty-five years before retiring in 1990. In addition, he was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation in Cranston and a member of the Order of AHEPA.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Katherine R. Grammas and her husband Constantine of Cranston and Constantine E. Marses and his wife Tina of Cranston. He was the cherished Papou (grandfather) of Dionisia, Elizabeth, Eleni, and Nicole Grammas and Elizabeth, Angela, and Efstathia Marses. Efstathios was the brother of John Marsis of Cranston, Anthoula Kontostathakos and Panagiota Papadakis both of Greece, Stamatiki Agadakos of Providence, Jean Daras of Cranston, and the late Georgia Tesseris and Eleni Kripotos.

Efstathios will always be remembered as a compassionate, generous, and sincere man. His favorite pastimes were cooking, gardening, making homemade wine, and sharing them with others. Above all else, he treasured the joy of his family more than words can describe, and his seven granddaughters were truly the light of his life. His memory has left an everlasting impression on all hearts that knew him. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Annunciation, Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be in the North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS Sunday 4-8 PM at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI, 02920.
