John Santos Obituary
Born in North Providence, he was the son of the late, Frank J. and Pauline (Viera) Santos.
John was a clerk in the Microfilm Department at the Providence Public Library for thirty two years.
Besides his fiancee he leaves one daughter, Sonya M. Barros; one son, Jason M. Barros both of Providence; one sister, Francesca Santos; six brothers, Peter, Paul, Joseph, David, Frank and Peter Santos and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Frank Santos.
Visitation will be Friday 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the PERRY/MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence. Burial will be in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery.

I extend my condolences; my heart is saddened by your loss! Growing up with Pye, I always considered the Santos as an extension of my family. From our start on John St. through our youthful years spent at the Drop-n-Center and my final days spent with Johnny, at Manny’s Ringside Lounge, before departing for California, it was always a please to be in his presence. He had an amazing disposition and a smile that would light up any room.

friend, and, every time I came home, I made sure to stop by to see him at the library, getting updates on old friends and current happenigs. It became a twice-a-year ritual, January and July. His first words were always, without exception, "how's Pat?" (My Mother).

I just want to say that although it has been such a long time since I have seen all of you (since I was a young girl in fact) please know that I have not forgotten. In life, so many people play a pivotal role in the development of a person as they grow up to adulthood, and I must say that Johnny will forever be one of those people to me. What I remember most was his kindness, his warmth and of course that darling face of his; he made people know that he cared (even if he cracked on you which he ususally did!). My thoughts are with you Arlene, Poopie, and all of your family at this time. My friend Johnny is forever imprinted in my heart and soul. My man was a nut and hilarious through all our days growing up in Fox Point. The crazy times @ Poor People's Park, Drop In Center, and just being "Pete the Tramps" guys. We took Wowie and Maureen's kids everywhere so we could get the car. The memories are what I cling to and even now cannot stop laughing because there are so many more to reflect on.

Seems that every morning here at PPl as I opened the door which leads from the central computer lab to our employee hallway, there would be John Santos on his way in as I was on my way out. I was in shock to read about John's passing. I met John when I worked at the library...it was my first real job when I was 18 yrs old. John was so funny and such a good person. I was so sad and shocked to hear that John passed away. I worked with him at PPL in the 80's and early 90's.
He was a good person most of all I remember his smile that lit up a room.

To the best Dad, PaPa, and man I know, I'm so grateful to have been raised by a man who loved us all unconditionally and who loved my mom with all his heart. I love how you two always enjoyed every minute you had with each other. You two always had inside jokes and laughed about it whenever I would ask you what was so funny, but I loved that about you two. I'm lucky I had two great parents that were happy and so in love for so many years. I will make sure my mom is okay and take care of her. When I was still working in the city I would see Johnny almost every day in the city taking his daily walks on his break time and lunch time, sometimes he would just start walking and talking with me on my lunch time he was just to funny. How can I say good-bye to my loving friend, brother, hangout buddy? The godfather of my oldest child. Thank you for the wonderful memories of our teenage years. I had the pleasure of working with John way back in the 80's and have great memories of him. I always made it a point to visit with him at the library whenever I came home to RI. He was a great person, with a wonderful sense of humor and great taste in music. He is really going to be missed. I wish his family and friends the very best. My thoughts are with all of you.
