Mub,
I never thought you would give me the big brother I didn't know I needed. However, I found a friend who was close as a brother, whom I could talk to about life, love and living. I miss him dearly and know that he is a guardian angel to many. Those precious memories you two shared will comfort and sustain you throughout these days and times. I am here for you my friend, and love you more every day. God Bless You Always, your sister, Linda

To Arlene, Poopie, Pye, Whistle and family,
I extend my condolences; my heart is saddened by your loss! Growing up with Pye, I always considered the Santos as an extension of my family. From our start on John St. through our youthful years spent at the Drop-n-Center and my final days spent with Johnny, at Manny’s Ringside Lounge, before departing for California, it was always a please to be in his presence. He had an amazing disposition and a smile that would light up any room.
I pray that the Lord welcomes your good look’n face into His gates.
May the Lord bless and comfort you all.

To, Arlene, and the entire, Santos' Family, I pray that you can find peace through your faith, during this difficult time. Johnny was a life-long
friend, and, every time I came home, I made sure to stop by to see him at the library, getting updates on old friends and current happenigs. It became a twice-a-year ritual, January and July. His first words were always, without exception, "how's Pat?" (My Mother).
Johnny, a true friend, a blessed spirit.

To: Arlene, Sonya, Jason, the
Santos and Barros Families,
and the PPL Central Branch
Co-workers.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the passing of John.
I met John as a library patron but soon became a friend, and considered him part of my family. His amazing grace, smile, humility, compassion was genuine. On Nov. 3, 2008 at 12.45 pm, I stopped at his PPL desk to ask for an update, not knowing I may never see a TRUE HERO again. Johnny, the world was a better place with you in it. Eternal peace, O Lord grant him.
He'll surely be missed.

I just want to say that although it has been such a long time since I have seen all of you (since I was a young girl in fact) please know that I have not forgotten. In life, so many people play a pivotal role in the development of a person as they grow up to adulthood, and I must say that Johnny will forever be one of those people to me. What I remember most was his kindness, his warmth and of course that darling face of his; he made people know that he cared (even if he cracked on you which he ususally did!). My thoughts are with you Arlene, Poopie, and all of your family at this time. Arlene, believe it or not, I have driven by your home on several occasions when I visted R.I. during the years (from where I live now which is in California) and I never was able to catch you and Johnny at home. In any event, just know that I care too. Take care of yourselves... Love, "Cricket" (Almeida)

To my dear cousins Arlene, Sonya and Jason,
Deepest sympathies are with you all and may you find comfort with the special bond you had with John and the many joys shared each day. It is not everyone who has an opportunity to share such precious moments with a wonderful man. In seeing Johnnie many a day downtown he was always with a smile and always with enthusiasm each time I asked of any of you. You are in my thoughts, in my prayers and if you need anything do not hesitate to ask. I love you all very much.

And wow - what about the magic you performed with microfilm research - oh my - you were really really good at what you did at the library. And the patrons already miss you - you were a charmer.

And who am I going to raise eyebrows with when something odd/interesting happens in the North Reading Room?

Rest in peace John and say hi to the Duke up there in heaven!!

On behalf of the union (USAW-RI), and for myself as well, please know that everyone in John's family is in our thoughts. It was a shock to hear of his passing and he will definitely be missed. I don't know how many times I came to Central when he was standing outside. I had it in my mind that he was smoking, but Gloria told me he quit a long time ago! The library will not be the same without him.

To Arlene & children ,
My friend Johnny is forever imprinted in my heart and soul. My man was a nut and hilarious through all our days growing up in Fox Point. The crazy times @ Poor People's Park, Drop In Center, and just being "Pete the Tramps" guys. We took Wowie and Maureen's kids everywhere so we could get the car. The memories are what I cling to and even now cannot stop laughing because there are so many more to reflect on.
You better than anyone else made all of us smile, laugh, and just appreciate life. I look forward to the day that we meet again in the next world.

God Bless you and lots of love forever

Seems that every morning here at PPl as I opened the door which leads from the central computer lab to our employee hallway, there would be John Santos on his way in as I was on my way out. Always with a smile or a joke to start my day. Now every time I open the door I expect to to see him and he isnt there. It has left a hole in my day.

To the Santos family and Mubby and Children. Please except my prayers and condolences to you all for the loss of Johnny. He was my dance partner at the Rec. Everybody loved Johnny. I can see the gleam in his eyes even now. Then I remembered how much he loved Aretha Franklin and that really took me back. I will miss all the great times we shared together forever, but the good thing about it is that I can still dance with him in spirit. To the best Dad, PaPa, and man I know, I'm so grateful to have been raised by a man who loved us all unconditionally and who loved my mom with all his heart. I love how you two always enjoyed every minute you had with each other. You two always had inside jokes and laughed about it whenever I would ask you what was so funny, but I loved that about you two. I'm lucky I had two great parents that were happy and so in love for so many years. I will make sure my mom is okay and take care of her.
