Carl Beauchamp Obituary

BEAUCHAMP, CARL C., 70, passed peacefully Wednesday at his home in East Greenwich.

A former Navy sailor, a published poet, an artist, an educator, and a beloved family man, he is survived by his cherished wife of 47 years, Olga Ann (Sullivan) Beauchamp, as well as three children and their spouses, Susan and Stanley Baran of Wakefield, Carl and Elisabeth Beauchamp of Riverside, and David and Jennifer Beauchamp of Smithfield. 'The best Grandpa in the whole world' is also survived by 10 adored grandchildren; Jordan, Matthew, Simmony, Carl-Ed, Julia, Kayla, Alyssa, Sabrina, Eric, and Eden Rae. Carl is the brother of Gene Beauchamp of Woonsocket, Shirley Farley of Providence, Gordon Beauchamp of Oklahoma, the late Carol Fowler of Kansas, and was a son of the late Belle Beauchamp. Carl also leaves behind 11 cherished siblings-in-law, including his life-long best friend, Chucky Sullivan of Cranston.

A life long Rhode Islander, Carl was born on August 26, 1938. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959 on the aircraft carriers the USS Leyte and the USS Saratoga. He graduated in 1971 from Goddard College, Montpelier, Vermont with a B.A. in Liberal Arts.

Carl devoted his professional life to higher education, working in Computer Resources at the Community College of Rhode Island from 1977-1991. Besides publishing a number of articles in various journals, he served for 12 years in the National Education Association of Rhode Island, becoming the unions President from 1983-1989. In addition to his academic writings, he recently published his first and final poem, entitled 'The Grim Reaper', in the prestigious Bryant Literary Review.

The funeral will be held Monday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in SS John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Sincerest sympathy for my cousins and family of carl. he is beautiful and charming, a wonderful man with class and neverending wit. he was very good to me as a little girl growing up.
