Edna Kostyla Obituary

KOSTYLA, EDNA A. (REKAS), of Coventry passed away at Kent Hospital on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the age of 94. She was the wife of the late Fred F. Kostyla and the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Bator) Rekas.

Edna was educated in the West Warwick school system. She worked at the former H & H Propeller Mfg. during WWII while her husband served in the Army in the African & Italian Campaigns. After raising her family she resumed work at various places, including Gorham Silver in the printing dept. and American Tourister Luggage. Edna was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Czenstochowa Parish. She was an active member and officer of the Rosary Society and volunteered many hours for the Parish Festival and Bazaar making Polish Food and prizes. She also was a member and officer of the American Legion Post SPRM, the Polish National Association, and Coventry Senior Citizens group. One of her favorite activities was water exercises at the Kent County YMCA until she reached the age of 90. Travel was something she always enjoyed particularly her trips to Poland.

Survivors include three daughters Joan McQuaid and husband Paul of Coventry, Loretta Whitford and husband Clifford of West Warwick, and Shirley Noel of Naples, FL. She leaves one much loved grandson Curtis Noel and his wife Vicky, a great granddaughter Alicyn Noel and two step grandchildren Brendan & Kelsi Gorman. She is also survived by one sister Stella Ogrodnik of St. Louis, MO. and many dear nephews and nieces. Edna was predeceased by brothers Stanley, Joseph, Edwin, and John Rekas, and sister, Helen Roch.

Her funeral will be Thursday at 9am from the Robert A. Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte. 117), Coventry, with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 470 Washington St., Coventry, RI 02816. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7pm. Memorial contributions to her parish will be appreciated. www.iannottifh.com

I will remember her love of food and the smiles she gave me during my visit during the Christmas holiday when we were visiting.I am so sorry for your loss.
