Thomas Duffin Obituary

DUFFIN, THOMAS L. II, 81, of Hilltop Place, New London, NH, formerly of Warwick, RI, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008. A retired advertising manager of The Providence Journal, he was the son of the late Grace (deRuitter) and Thomas L. Duffin of Warwick, RI.

Mr. Duffin was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in East Orange, NJ. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a 1950 graduate of the School of Journalism at Syracuse University. Mr. Duffin was employed by The Providence Journal for 32 years and had been a member of numerous professional advertising associations in RI and New England.

He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Mackin) Duffin. Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his four children, Susan Duffin of Stone Mountain, GA, T. Bradley Duffin and his wife, Lynne of Newburyport, MA, Elizabeth Murphy and her husband, James Forward of Topsfield, MA and Robert Duffin and his wife, Denise of Salem, MA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Thomas Murphy, Tyler and Olivia Duffin, and Chase and Clayton Duffin.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New London.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima, 724 Main Street, New London, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London, NH 03257. Chadwick Funeral Service of New London, NH is assisting the family with arrangements.

I knew Tom as a great colleague and gentleman at the Providence Journal during my years there (1976-1986). He was extremely intelligent and very hard working, a great sense of humor, and I'm sure he will be missed greatly. Eleanor I'm very sorry for you loss.

I met Mr Duffin on a number of occasions while volunteering at NLH.
He was a genial gentleman; I hoped to see him in the community some time but it will be in a different community where we all meet.
