Odile Lacroix Obituary

LACROIX, ODILE H. (GOURD), 93, formerly of Lexington Avenue, West Warwick, died on Friday, December 12, at Riverview Healthcare Community in Coventry. She was the wife of the late Adrien Autotte and Emile L. Lacroix.

Born in West Warwick, a daughter of the late Alexandre and Hattie (Fontaine) Gourd, she was a life-long West Warwick resident.

Mrs. Lacroix worked as a waitress for many years at the Log Cabin Restaurant, Newberry's, and Arctic News, before becoming co-owner of Mac's Bowl with her husband Emile in 1957. Together they ran the business until Emile's death in 1965. Odile continued the successful management of the bowling alley until age 78, when she relinquished operation to her son Roger. She continued to work 'full time' until age 87.

Mrs. Lacroix was a communicant of St. John's parish and a member of its choir for many years. She was also a long-time member of the Daughters of Isabella, Nina Circle #67. She was an avid Red Sox fan.

Mrs. Lacroix is survived by her son, Roger Lacroix and his wife Deborah, of Coventry; her daughter, Judith Archambault, and her husband Lionel, of Narragansett; five grandchildren, Sean Davies, Mark Davies, Gary Davies, Daniel Lacroix, and Allison Levesque; two step-grandchildren, Eric and Curt Archambault; and six great-grandchildren, Emma, Jayne, Sam, Madelyn and Annalise Davies, and Connor Archambault. She was pre-deceased by her five brothers, Henri Danis, Raphael, Clovis, Gideon, and Normand Gourd, and two sisters, Rachel Mayette and Isabelle White.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 9 a.m. from the Potvin & Cotter Funeral Home, 45 Curson Street, West Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Legris Avenue, West Warwick.

Visiting hours are Monday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick.

To The whole lacroix family,

I had the pleasure of meeting Odile a few years ago. We seemed to have an instant bond, not to sure why but we did. I later learned I had much respect for her son-in-law and that drew me that much closer to odile. The family took me under their wings like I was a part of them. I left where she was staying and tried to go see her but there were many obsticles in my way and I went one day to explain that to her. We both cried and hugged and we said our good by,s and off I went. I will miss her very much. I will never forget the Blizzard of "78", our bus pulled up to her bowling alley and said this is where the bus stops and let all the kids just run free through the streets of clyde. Not Odile, She invited us in to keep warm and offered us the phone to call our parents. Many years later I met her son-in-law and then her entire family. Now thats full circle. I will miss her toasting us with champagne on the holidays but I just drive through clyde and thats where it all began. I will miss you my friend.

Dear Roger and Family,

My brother and I send our condolences to your family. Miss Odile was always a welcoming face to all of us at the bowling alley. We always enjoyed talking to her, and she was usually the first to congratulate us on a high game right before it was announced over the PA.

Please accept our blessings and well wishes.

Roger, Debbie & Family,
Our deepest sympathy to the family.
Always will remember Odile sitting at the counter at Mac's watching the kids bowl many years ago. Not sure who enjoyed watching the kids more her or the parents. She was so proud when the kids did good and went on to represent Mac's at other establishments.
Oh the memorys. May they comfort you at this difficult time.
