Harold Thornton Obituary

THORNTON, HAROLD C. SR., 80, of Comfort Lane in Wakefield, died Friday, August 17th, in the South County Hospital. He was the husband of the late Geraldine (Polke) Thornton.

Born in Pawtucket on January 31, 1927, a son of the late Harry and Mildred (Ledoux) Thornton, Mr. Thornton has lived in the South County area for the past 50 years coming from Pawtucket. Mr. Thornton was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He was a member of the American Legion Downey Weaver Post #34. For many years, Mr. Thornton owned and operated the Snug Harbour Marina. He was also the owner of the FV Jackie & Jerry and the FV Cara Lyn.

Mr. Thornton is survived by one son, Kenneth E. Thornton of Wakefield; one daughter, Jacqueline E. Rivera of Wakefield; one brother, Daniel Thornton of Pawtucket; one sister, Bernice Thornton of Wakefield; six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Harold C. Thornton, Jr.

Relatives and friends invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Church, 114 High St., Wakefield, follow by a burial in RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting hours in the Forbes Funeral Home, 28 Columbia St., Wakefield Tuesday 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pt. Judith Fisherman's Scholarship Fund, PO Box 386, Narragansett, RI 02882.

Jackie,Kenney and family,
We were truly saddened to hear of your Dads passing, Having grown up down the harbour Pat and I have wonderful stories to tell to this next generation about the old days, ( Maybe not all of them ). Harold was a Great man and I know he will be missed.Take care Karen and Pat Marchetti

In My Pocket

So sorry to hear of Harold's Dead. I really never knew him very well, but from what I heard he was a good hearted man. He will be missed.
