Of all the memories that I have of my Uncle Rico...the one thing I will miss the most is not being able to hear his loud, scratchy voice yelling "Hey sweetheart!" just before the big bearhug...I love and miss you Uncle Ricky!

Dearest Nadine,Children and my Cousins', Saundra, Georgianna & Alan,

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. I remember visiting Uncle Rico and Auntie Evelyn's beach house in Coventry, RI where Ricky would try so hard to get me and my sister Linda up on water skiis. We all laughed and cried, but I never made it, Linda did.

My thoughts are fond ones of the great families we all shared together long ago. Rico, give our love to all our parents' and grandparents', I'm sure you are now resting with them.

May God Bless!

Love, Cousins' Alan and Maryann Pimentel, New Hampshire

We buried our brother, and still ask why, his life was cut short, no answers have I. We stood at attention, and saluted all day, trying not to cry, to that end there was no way. Now the service has ended, the chapel has gone dark, and of my friend Rico, I will miss his spark. For I will always remember his daunting smile, or a COUPLE TWO TREE jokes, that made me laugh for awile. So rest in peace my friend, and take comfort in the fact, that we will always remember, and always look back.

To My Uncle Allan Aunt, cousins and Ricos family and friends,

I only got to meet Rico a few times, what I remember about him is the sense of humor he had. I know my cousins spoke of him allot while we where growing up, and I knew him to be one of thier favorite relatives. He brought many smiles and a sense of security to those he met. I know the way this happened was not fair, and nobody was prepared. I know god must of had something pretty important in mind for him. Someday we will all meet up with him again, and maybe then we will understand. My heart is with you all, and you all are in my prayers.

I was just getting acquainted with Rico and in the short time I had it was definately a pleasure to have someone with such a spirit for life come into mine. I couldn't bring myself to attend his calling, so I went to Narragansett beach with my arms filled with sea scallop shells and walked to where he last was and made a huge cross of shells in his memory. To our absent brother who will truely be missed by all of the lives blessed by his presence. God's speed "Rico".

DiPetrillo Family,

Rico and I met in High School. We clicked right away because we both share that unique name Americo.

Americo means King, it was true of my pisano. He had the personality of a king, you felt his presence right away when he walked up to you hand raised for a shake and in my case a hug.

While we had lost touch over the years I have never forgotten him and never will. God Bless him and his family.

Rico,
You will be dearly missed. Your laugh will forever ring in my head when I think of some of the jokes you used to tell. The "nodding" off in the chair at the station will be something we at the station will fondly remember. Don't worry about Kelli, like I promised I will take care of her. I will miss everything about you, especially one of your favorite sayings at the station.."I don't know what you call it...". Well my friend you will be missed. RIP Dad.

MY HERO, THE FIREFIGHTER

What is a hero? Everybody has a different definition whether it is his or her favorite celebrity, athlete or teacher. I never gave much thought about what a hero is, until I met mine 20 years ago. I didn't know at the time this person would become my hero. My husband is my hero, and he has been a fire-fighter for 38 yrs. There have been too many times I have seen him come home after a run where he would be sad, mad, confused & agonized from what he experienced on the call he just came from. Fire-fighters never think about the dangerous situations they face when entering a burning building. Their man concern is to save the person, people or even animal they are rescuing. There are many times they charge into an empty building to make sure there isn't anybody trapped inside, just as Mathew Goodman says about athletes, "they possess a vital indomitable spirit; they are gloriusly alive inside their bodies", This also, holds true for fire fighters. A fire fighter is a person with a sharp memory of a child who never got over the excitement of engines, sirens, smoke and danger. They put it all on the line when the bell rings or a call is announced over the radio. They savor life because they have seen too much death. Fire fighters are gentle because they have seen too much of the awesome power of violent forces out of control. They are responsive to a child's laughter because their arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again. Fire fighters appreciate the simple pleasures of life, hot coffee held in numbed, unbendig fingers, the flush of fresh air pumping through smoke and fire convulsed lungs, a warm bed for bone and muscle compelled beyond feeling. They don't wear buttons, wave flags or shout obscenities and when they march it is to honor a fallen comrade. It is not difficult to understand why fire fighters become our hero's. My fire-fighting husband will always be my hero. When the call comes in over the radio I see the excitement all over his face but for me it is an agonizing feeling that he will not make it back home this time. I think every woman or man who is married to or involved with a fire fighter is proud but also scared they will not make it out of the burning building. I hoped and prayed I would never get that call at 2am to say he didn't make it. When he walked into the house after a call I finally had my peace. I think my husband did know how I felt but I never expressed or complained my agony because I know he was doing what he loved and I didn't need to have him worrying about how I felt when he was running into flames. When the door opened hours later and he walked in I was content that my hero was home and safe.

Brother-in-Law, Peter

Dear Rico,
For some reason God felt it was necessary to take you from us. His reason we will never understand, we only know your gone, and it hurts, and there's nothing we can do. We're left with only memories where you used to stand, and then we smile, and we laugh, and then we cry....and then we cry....and then we cry.
The last alarm has sounded....and there's nothing we can do. I'll miss you Rico

You were my first friend; my first brother.

We romped and played ~ pushed and shoved ~ sat in trees and talked about how we could make the coolest fort!

We celebrated life and cried when our hearts were broken.

Well, my friend, my brother.... my heart is broken and it hurts. I can't cry with you; I can only cry because of you!

I will always love you ~ I will always think of you.

You are loved by many in a special way you would never believe!

Rest peacefully my friend.

To Rico's Family and Friends,
Our deepest sympathy to everyone. Rico was a giving, thoughtful, and
fun-loving person. His brother Alan is my brother-in-law so we would see each other at family events. He was on the rescue squad when I called during an emergency and it was comforting just to have him there during this time of stress.
I will remember Rico fondly and will think of him at future events.
I will always picture him with his infectious smile and expressive story-telling.
