Jose Gabriel Fernandes

FERNANDES, JOSE GABRIEL, age 60, of Bristol Avenue, died at home Thursday morning, August 30, 2007. He was the husband of Luisa (Amarante) Fernandes.

Born in Terceira, Azores, Nov. 17, 1946, he was the son of Tereza (Amarante) Fernandes of North Providence and the late Antonio Fernandes. Mr. Fernandes came to the United States in 1970, first settling in the Fox Point section of Providence before moving to Pawtucket, 26 years ago. He worked as a machine operator at ITT, now known as American Insulated Wire Company, and later worked for the City of Pawtucket.

He was a member of the Irmandade Espirito Santo Antonio of Pawtucket, the Banda Nova Alianca of Pawtucket, the Portuguese Continental Union of the USA, the Grupo Amigos da Terceira Inc., of Pawtucket, the Clube Recreativo e Cultural Portuguese of Warren.

In addition to his mother and his beloved wife, he leaves his daughter, Teresa Kelleher of North Haven, CT and his son, Gabriel Fernandes of Pawtucket; a granddaughter, Aislin Kelleher; his sisters, Liduina Cavaco and Nilda Angela, both of North Providence; Rosalina Mendes of Delray Beach, FL, and Angelina Ramos of Henderson, NV; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, Lawn Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday 5-8 p.m.
