Marjorie Gorman Obituary
GORMAN, MARJORIE ANNE (MORIN), RN, BSN., 'MARGE' age 70, of Swansea died Wednesday Sept. 27, 2007 at her residence after an illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Gorman who died in 2005.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late George Morin, Sr. and the late Leonora (Place) Morin, she resided in Westport for 20 years, moving to Swansea in 1984. She graduated magna cum laude, Class of 1954, from the former Mt. St. Mary Academy in Fall River where she served as senior class vice president. A 1961 graduate of Salve Regina College - now Salve Regina University - she received a BA in Biology and Chemistry and in 1983 graduated cum laude with a BS in Nursing.
Mrs. Gorman taught from 1961 - 1980 at the former St. Mary's Academy and Bishop Gerrard High School where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Dean of Women and chairman of the student-faculty board. An RN, she worked at Rhode Island, Morton, the Providence VA Hospitals, Fall River Same Day Surgical Center and the Rhode Island Blood Center where she served as Charge Nurse for blood drives at the Middletown site. She was also a First Aid Instructor, recognized by NASA for her work as a science teacher and received a grant from NSTA for continuing education in chemistry at Pratt institute in Brooklyn, NY.
Mrs. Gorman was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace in Westport where she taught CCD, and St. Dominic's Church in Swansea. A member and past president of St. Mary Academy Alumni, she edited the Alumni Newspaper and served on the reunion committees. She was a Charter 1st Vice president and past president of the Greater Fall River Business and Professional Women's Club, was listed in Outstanding Young Women of America, and a former member of the American-French Genealogical Society having traced her paternal line back to the Capets of France. In addition to enjoying genealogy research, she loved challenging crossword puzzles, reading, needlework and avidly followed current events and news.
Surviving: brother: George Morin and his wife Shannon of Nazareth, PA, sisters: Margaret 'Peggy' Goslin and her husband Joseph of Westport, MA, Phyllis Fontaine and her husband Norman of Tiverton, RI, Eileen Lake of So. Yarmouth and her longtime companion Mariano Pimental of No. Dartmouth, 19 nieces and nephews, 25 grand nieces and nephews and 4 great-grand nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Monday Oct. 1, 2007 at 8:00 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in St. Dominic's Church GAR Highway Swansea.
