LIEBERMAN, ABBOTT, 92 of Providence, died October 7, 2007 at the Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Elaine (Frank) Lieberman to whom he had been married for 66 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Jacob Lieberman and the late Mary Lieberman Korb.
Mr. Lieberman attended Bryant-Stratton College, and was the manager at Korb Baking Co. for 25 years before retiring in 1970. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 20 and the Assistant District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts for 20 years. He was presented the Capt. George Bucklin medal by the Narraganset Council BSA and the Silver Beaver for distinguished service to youth awarded by the National Court of Honor, Boy Scouts of America. He was Chairman of the Jewish Committee on Scouting and received the Shofar Award. A Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII he received a medical discharge. Mr. Lieberman had worked as a tutor with the Providence Hebrew Day School, Martin Luther School and John Howland schools. He directed the woodworking program at the Comprehensive Day Care Center for 16 years; for the past 16 years he had been a volunteer at the Miriam Hospital and was a volunteer at the Jewish Family Service and the United Way. He had also been a member of the Democratic State Committee. A member of Temple Emanu El, Touro Fraternal, and Jewish War Veterans. He was a founder of the Temple's Leisure Club, a Board Member of Lippitt Hill Tutorial, Aging 2000, the Jewish Home for the Aged, and an Honorary Board Member of the Temple Emanu El Jewish Family Service and Leisure Club. He was also a member of S.A.G.E. and a facilitator for the R.I. Center for Attitudinal Support, a support group for people with catastrophic illnesses sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women. He was an artist, sculptor and craftsman. A member of the Providence Art Club and the Cambridge, MA Art Association, he had been the recipient of many prizes. He also enjoyed travel and many Elderhostel Programs, as well as camping, mountain climbing, gardening, lectures, concerts and playing bridge.
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Constance Bram and her husband Stephen of Edison, NJ, his two sons, James Lieberman and his wife Sherri of Potomac, MD and Michael Lieberman and his wife Ilene of Natick, MA; his 7 grandchildren: Jeffrey and Neal Bram, Nancy Barton, Debra Lieberman; and Rachel, David and Melanie Lieberman; as well as 5 great grandchildren: Mathew, Zachary and Noah Bram, Sarah Barton, and Ryan Bram. He was the brother of the late Dr. Milton Korb, Evelyn Slepkow, Leolla Silverman, and Edmund Korb.
Funeral Services will he held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Temple Emanu El, 99 Taft Avenue, Providence. Burial will be at Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Rd., Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Jewish Family Services of Providence. Shiva will be observed at his late residence on Tuesday from 7-9 PM, and on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The family was assisted with arrangements by SUGARMAN-SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPEL.
