Elizabeth Tighe Obituary

TIGHE, ELIZABETH 'BESSIE' R. (JOYCE), 90, of Providence passed away October 5 at the Scallop Shell Nursing home. She was the wife of the late A. Howard Tighe. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Irving and Rita (Quinn) Joyce, she had lived in Providence most of her life.

Bessie graduated in 1938 from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, She received a B.S. in 1954 and a M.S. in 1960 from the Boston University School of Nursing. Early in her career she was a Visiting Nurse in South County. For over 30 years she was employed by the State of Rhode Island and she retired as the department head of Family Health. During retirement she volunteered at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

She is survived by 3 nieces, 8 nephews, 7 grand nieces, 10 grand nephews, 2 great grand nieces, and 2 great grand nephews. She was also the sister of the late Mildred Coleman, Gladys McKenna, Phyllis Corbesero and Rita Streeter.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. from the Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave., Providence with a Mass of Christian burial in Blessed Sacrament Church Academy Ave. at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be on Tuesday 8:30 A.M to 9:30 A.M. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. ARRANGEMENTS BY SUPINSKI & BORRELLI.

My mother, Regina Frechette, R.N., B.S., worked with Bessie and they were good friends through the years as well. I remember Bessie as somewhat elegant, yet warm and caring, too. She was a good nurse who left a wonderful legacy to the people of Rhode Island.
