Nancy Tikkanen Obituary
She attended Cornell University prior to starting her employment with the State of Rhode Island where she worked for over 35 years before retiring from her position as a Policy Analyst for the Department of Mental Health and Human Services.
Ms. Tikkanen grew up on her family's farm in Foster, Rhode Island and continued in this tradition as an avid gardener at her East Side home. She was a frequent sight at farmers markets where she could find fresh, local produce. Ms. Tikkanen was also a passionate and accomplished cook and delighted in preparing new dishes.
Besides her father and mother, she leaves a brother, Wayne Tikkanen of South Pasadena, California, and a sister, Kristen Tikkanen of West Greenwich, Rhode Island.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 28, from 1-3 PM at 64 Hazard Street, Providence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Providence Animal Rescue League.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held for those unable to attend the memorial service at the Foster Country Club November 10 1-4 PM.

I was leaving for CA the day I read of Nancy's passing and could not be at the Memorial Service.
Nancy was the driving force of our High School yearbook Committee. How well I remember her work ethic back then...I wish I had kept in touch with her over the years.
We don't know what we have until it's gone.
Miss you Nancy.

To nancy's family, let me express my sincere sympathy at your loss. Nancy was someone I admired and since we both retired, I have also enjoyed our regular emails and occasional lunches. I very much respected Nancy for her work ethic and intelligence and really enjoyed her company. I will miss her.

Our hearts and prayers go to the Tikkanen family. We are farmers at the Hope Street Farmers market where you could be sure to see Nancy. We sometimes would pick berries at the farm when we didnt have enough of our own. She would often tell me what she had cooked for her dad, on the weekends that she saw him! Amy Vinal- Woodstock Farms

Nancy and I worked together on and off during our 35 years of state service. We had many great discussions and shared a few favorite recipes. Nancy will be missed. My condolences to the Tikkanen family.

Hello, I wanted to express my deepest condolences to the Tikkanen family. I grew up in Foster and went several times to the farms that Nancy loved. I also had Mrs. Tikkanen as a teacher. You are all in my prayers. God Bless.
