Andrew Ginda Obituary

GINDA, ANDREW M., 86, of 15 Spencer Drive, passed away Saturday at West Shore Health Center, Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy K. (Kimberley) Ginda.

Born in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of the late Alexander and Anna (Borowski) Ginda.

During 23 years of active service with the US Navy, he served in WWII and Korea, and was a military training and gunnery instructor during Vietnam. He graduated from 8 naval schools, and was assigned to FASRON (special weapons) 201, Halfar, Malta. He served on the battleship USS New Mexico where he entered Tokyo Bay with Admiral Halseys Third Fleet to end WWII, and the USS Tallahatcie County, the USS Meredith, the USS Bears, and the USS The Sullivans, and retired as a Chief Gunners Mate.

Mr. Ginda later worked at Davisville on the police force and Gulton Manufacturing in East Greenwich before retiring. He was the past national Chaplain for the Fleet Reserve Association and was a member of Branch 42, the American Legion Post 12 and was a life member of the VFW.

He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church where together with his wife; he shared the gift of faith with his children. A longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a 3rd degree knight of the St. Francis Council and a 4th degree of the Fr. Wallace Assembly.

Besides his wife he leaves a son James E. Ginda and daughter-in-law Mary E. Ginda of Coventry; a daughter, Kimberley A. Jones and son-in-law Butch Jones of Warwick; a sister, Anna Dora Wright of Wilmington, DE; and two grandchildren, Joshua N. Jones and Ashley M. Ginda. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Edward, and Theodore Ginda. He loved his family.

His Funeral will be held Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 8:30am from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bernard Church, 415 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the St. Bernard Church Building Fund will be appreciated.
