Thomas Haxton Obituary

HAXTON, THOMAS C. JR., 76, of Warwick, passed away Tuesday at South County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Doherty) Haxton for 43 years.

He was born in Providence, the son of the late Thomas C. and Elizabeth Florence (McGuinness) Haxton, Sr. He had lived in Warwick for 40 years.

Tom was the owner of Haxton's Liquors. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, Class of 1948 and Providence College, Class of 1952, where he was a member of the Glee Club. He was a First Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a member and Past President of the Warwick Country Club and a former member of Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Palm City, Fl.

He was a Past President of the Providence College Alumni Association, and a longtime men's basketball season ticket holder. He was the Past President and member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in Providence. He was a communicant of St. Rita Church in Warwick where he sang in the choir.

He is survived by his six children, Thomas C. Haxton, III of Foster, MaryAnn Johnson of East Bridgewater MA, Michael J. Haxton and Kevin J. Haxton, both of Warwick, Maureen E. Reid of Naugatuck, CT and Patricia E. Angeli of South Kingstown and his 17 grandchildren. He was the brother of Florence H. McGreen, John J. Haxton and Robert J. Haxton all of Narragansett. He was the brother of the late Ronald E. Haxton.

His funeral will be Saturday at 8:45am in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd.(Route 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am in St. Rita Church, Oakland Beach Ave, Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours, Friday, 4-8pm. To The Haxton Family: I knew Tom, going all the way back to the Assumption Church in Providence. We stayed in touch over the years, lunching at the Old Canteen, Twin Oaks and like places. He was fun to be with and always enjoyed a good joke. Offering some of his own, to the delight of those he was with. My the special things about Tom live on in your hearts as they will in mine.
