Marguerite Clifford Obituary

CLIFFORD, MARGUERITE E., passed away unexpectedly in her Paradise Valley, AZ home on October 22nd.

This beautiful and gracious lady left her family and friends at the height of her powers. Marguerite was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an activist for the arts, health and education. She served on many boards including the Board of the Arizona Kidney Foundation, the Barrow Neurological Foundation and the Phoenix Symphony. Marguerite humbly received many honors. She most recently received the 2007 Fabulous Phoenician Award.

Her family and friends thought of her as a renaissance woman with an intense love for life and all its beauty and blessings. During recent years she pursued her passions for thoroughbred horse breeding and racing, writing, travel and competitive ballroom dancing while cherishing the many wonderful people she met along the way.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jack; son Jay (Tucson, AZ), daughter-in-law Lori, grandchildren Jack and Sarah; daughter Kristin Van Houten (Granite, Maryland) son-in-law Peter, grandson Robin; sister Sharon Seeds; sister-in-law Rosejean Hinsdale, brother-in-law Jim and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 27th at Christ Church of the Ascension, 4015 East Lincoln Dr Paradise Valley, AZ. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the AZ Kidney Foundation, 4203 East Indian School Rd., Suite 140, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Messinger Mortuary.

The passing of Marguerite is a huge loss for me, the community and anyone who knew her. Marguerite was the most graceful, wonderful women I have ever met. The love between Jack and Marguerite was felt by all and she will be sorely missed. The impact of her philanthropy will be felt for generations. We all join with Jack in celebrating her life and mourn this tragic loss.
