Michael Palumbo Obituary

PALUMBO, MICHAEL GORDON, 74, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Rosemarie (Giannini) Palumbo for 49 years.

Born June 12, 1933 in Cranston the son of the late Louis and Carmella (Marino) Palumbo.

Mr. Palumbo was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and received his Master's from Providence College, after which he pursued a career in Education. He retired from the Providence School Dept. as the Educational Information Systems Analyst for the City of Providence. He coached track and wrestling at Central High School. He also was a wrestling official at both high school and college levels. He was a former Scout Master for Troop 66 in Cranston.

Mr. Palumbo was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Warwick where he served as a Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, Lector and was on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Kennedy Council K of C. He was Chairman of the Cranston School Committee, retiring in January 2007 due to illness. He was also a Korean War Veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Sgt. (WPD) Robert (Donna) Palumbo and Representative Peter (Amie) Palumbo and two daughters, Lisa (Michael) Gemma, all in Cranston, and Pamela Palumbo of Andover, MA. Eight grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Elliott and Christopher Palumbo and Natalia, Andrea and Charlotte Gemma.

He leaves three brothers: Lewis, of Valrico, FL; Richard of Cranston; Donald of Jamestown. Four sisters: Helen Geerhold of North Kingstown; Barbara DePasquale and Pauline Kiernan of Warwick; Jayne Bojar of Tampa, FL.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from 'WOODLAWN' Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Dear Rosemarie and Family:

We were saddened to learn of Gordie's passing. Althugh we have not kept in touch over they years, we often thought about the good times we had when we lived in Rhode Island. He was a great guy and a good friend during the URI days as he and I and Frank Gagliano spent a lot of time on the road communting together.
