Nathan Crowell Obituary
Nathan was a student at the University of New Haven. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters Leah Crowell of Riverside, Sarah Crowell-Stringer and her husband Ian of Portsmouth, his maternal grandmother M. Deloris (Boots) Stevens of Florida and his girlfriend Jillian Belanger. He was the grandson of the late David and Jeanne Frances Crowell and Lester B. Stevens.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 3-8 pm in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside with a Funeral Service at 7:00 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to The David A. Beckerman Recreation Ctr., c/o University of New Haven, 300 Boston Post Rd., W. Haven, CT 06516, in memory of Nathan D. Dear Crowell Family, our hearts go out to you. I just read about this on the Memorial Ride poster at Manny's Hockey Shop. We lost our 17 year old son Andrew this past March in a skiing acident. He also was a lifelong hockey player and was a 4 year varsity player at Diman Regional. May you find the guidance you need through friends and family and the hockey community because they are the best.

Dear Crowell Family ~ We are at a loss for words, yet as we sit here together are read the beautiful entries about your son, it takes us back almost three years ago when we received the phone call ~ telling us that our 18 year son, Jaxon, died while playing hockey. He blocked a shot, just like Nathan, and it took his life. Many sad and difficult days followed. In reading the entries, Nathan sounded a lot like Jaxon. And it seemed they both loved hockey. A friend of Jaxon's hockey coach put together a website and it has been a great comfort to us and to his friends (www.rockonjaxon.com) The greatest time we spend with Jaxon now is with the memories we have before he left. It was the love that was extended to us throughout the hockey world, our community and friends that brought solace to our hearts. The knowledge that we will see our son again gives us hope and peace. Our prayers and friendship are with you.

Dear Gale,
I am so sorry that Nathan has passed from this life. He was, and always will be for me, that sweet smile, computer wiz, quick to laugh even when my jokes were corny. I will always remember when he was trying to decide what to purchase for his girlfriend. I know you know what that was, Gale, so I won't write it down. What I said caused quite an uproar of laughter and I will never forget the look on his face and I choose to remember that very special moment in time. He was loved by many, what was not to love. I will carry him in my heart and prayers for eternity and I beleive with my entire being that we will meet again. Gale you and Bill and the girls are also in our prayers and hearts and know our strength pours out to you while you are all going through this horrendous time. Hello, I, too, am a graduate of East Providence High and I was stunned when I saw the news on TV. I remember Nathan's face very well, I saw him almost every day in the halls at school. You could tell that he was a sweet person just by looking at him. I've never spoken to him, but it is still so unfortunate when you learn that someone you used to see every day alive and well has now passed and at so young an age. I know no words can express how terrible and shocked your family and friends must feel, but please take comfort in knowing that he is safe now with God and he will always be your angel. He will always be with you whether you know it or not. God bless you all.

Dear Crowell family: We have been friends for most of our lives and have had the honor of watching our children grow up together. Nate, though a handful as a young boy, channeled that spirit into everything he did as a man. He and I had a wonderful conversation at Sarah's wedding and I was so impressed by his energy and willingness and drive. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. My little brother died the same way nearly 3 years ago, doing what he loved, playing hockey, when he blocked a shot that stopped his heart. Dear David,
After Scott informed me of Nathan's death I was truely stunned. Then my mind went back to a 4th of July in Barrington. Watching your Dad in his dress whites lighting fireworks, as four anxious boys looked on from a really cool treehouse. Then Christmas in a basement, with a cardboard grocery store and playing "spooky night".
Perhaps no one will understand what this means....but I am sure you will. And so will Steve.
I would like nothing more to be there to show my deepest sympathy and respect, but unforfunatly I am in Indiana. My prayers are with you and your family and my memories of our good times as children will never fade.

Dear Crowell Family,
I was saddened and shocked by the news of Nathan's passing. I wish I had found out earlier, I would have been there to pay my respects.
I remember Nathan from growing up, being best friends with Sarah. Nathan was always so full of life. I will always remember his contagious smile!

When Brian and I got the call that something tragic had happened, many scenarios raced through our minds. Never would we have imagined this tragedy,the loss of a dearly loved son, brother, nephew, boyfriend and friend to so many. There are not any words to express the depth of your sorrow at this time, nor the loss that you are feeling. I speak for many when I say that I feel that this world has lost a fine young man. I also know that the loss we feel is only pale in comparison to your's.
I was shocked when the news hit about Nate, and the first thing that came to my mind was his gentle spirit and his beautiful smile. I don't recall a time when I didn't see that wonderful smile on his face. He was only a young boy when he became part of our family, and he grew to be a fine young man, and he was loved as such. I hope you feel proud of the man you raised, because you should be! Know that he will be greatly missed be many.

I've known Nate since I can possibly remember...his family has become my family, and he was always someone I looked up when I was much younger, and now to this day as well. HE always had this presence that brought people to him...something each member of the Crowell family exuberates as well. He may lost, but he will never be forgotten. My heart doesn't want to believe this tragedy has really happened. So many memories of Nate have been running through my mind these past few days of when we were kids. For years he was basically an extended part of my family and then we lost touch...it just goes to show you how fragile life really is and that no matter what you should never lose touch with those who have been such a big part of your life because you never know when they won't be there anymore.
