Barbara Carroll Obituary

CARROLL, BARBARA J. (LAMORE), 81, formerly of Narragansett Terrace, Bullocks Pt. Avenue, Riverside died on November 28, 2007 at the Grace Barker Nursing Center in Warren. She was the wife of the late Charles V. Carroll Jr. of Fall River, MA and the late William A. Mellen of Narragansett.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Frank Lamore and the late Adeline Lamore Deuel.

Mrs. Carroll was a 1943 graduate of East Providence High School and a 1946 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. She obtained a Master degree in Education from Rhode Island College.

Mrs. Carroll was a teacher and guidance counselor in the Barrington school system for thirty years, retiring in 1989. Barbara was a voracious reader, and enjoyed spending summers on Briggs Beach in Little Compton with her family and friends. She was active in the Fall River Historical Society for many years and was a member of the English Speaking Union, Providence Chapter.

She leaves six children: Foster Mellen of Herndon, VA, Joy Scott of Newport, Christine Mello Bairos of East Providence, Lisa Conners of Newport, Alexa Lechman of Smithfield, and Andrew Mellen of Providence; eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was the sister of Bette Lamore of Colorado Springs, CO and the late Raymond Deuel. She was the stepmother of Matthew Carroll of Kingston, NY and the late Charles V. Carroll III.

There will be a gathering for family and friends to remember and celebrate Barbara's life on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside. Flowers are respectfully omitted; contributions may be made to the Women & Infants Development Foundation to support the Breast Health Center. Send to Women & Infants Hospital, Dept. of Philanthropy, 101 Dudley St., Providence, RI 02905. Burial will be private.

Barbara touched a lot of people. When I met Barbara I noticed her quick wit and compassion for other people. She helped me in some personal issues that I was going thru. I loved Barbara and I will continue to and share her strength and hope with others.
