Avis S. Posner

POSNER, AVIS S. (STRAUSS), of Providence, died November 28, 2007. Totally devoted to her family, she was the wife of the late Seymour Posner, 1st Asst. U.S. Attorney; mother of Penina G. Posner of Providence; sister of Phyllis S. Stanzler of Providence; and daughter of the late Joseph and Selina (Woolf) Strauss.

Mrs. Posner was a published composer of children's music used on public television and internationally, and was a longstanding member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). She was a classically trained Colatura Soprano who had studied music and performed in operas in NYC. Mrs. Posner was a graduate of the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.

Known for her sparkling intelligence and artistic creativity, she was also a successful business woman. For over 30 years she was the owner and operator of the RI Vacuum Cleaner Co. (RIVAC), a family owned business. A woman of many exceptional gifts which she freely shared with everyone whose lives she touched, Mrs. Posner was known for her wisdom, generosity of spirit and selfless empathy for others.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 2nd at 1:00 PM at Temple Emanu-El, 99 Taft Ave., Providence with burial in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick. Contributions may be made to The Fund for Animals, 200 W. 57th St., NY, NY 10019. Shiva will be observed in the Youth Lounge at Temple Emanu-El Sun 3:30-5:30, and Mon & Tue 6:30-9:00 PM.
