George D'Arrico Obituary

D'ARRICO, GEORGE L., of Shadow Brook Lane, Smithfield, RI, died unexpectedly at home, on Friday, November 30, 2007. He was 77. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Bastia) D'Arrico.

He resided in Providence, RI, most of his life, until moving to Smithfield, RI five years ago to be closer to his family. He was a graduate of Providence College, class of 1952 and a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War era. George was the owner of Johns Furniture Company, a family owned business in Providence, RI, founded by his father John, in the early 1900s. Upon his fathers death, he continued to operate the business until his retirement in 1975. After his retirement, he passed the time as a seasonal employee of H&R Block, Inc. Until the time of his death, he remained loyal in preparing the income tax returns for many friends and family members. George was a member of Triggs Golf Course and a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, in Providence, RI. George was known for his desire to sample some of the finest cuisine that Rhode Island has to offer. He enjoyed all sports. A fan of the Boston Red Sox and an avid golfer, he achieved a 'Hole in One' early in his golfing career.

George leaves two nieces and one nephew, Claudia E. DePastina and her husband Edward T. Jr., of Smithfield, RI, Paula T. San Souci and her husband Alfred, of Naples, FL and Smithfield, RI, and Joseph A. Spirito, Jr., M.D. and his wife Jill of Bristol, RI. He is predeceased by his sister, Rose A. Spirito. He also leaves two great grand-nieces and one great grand-nephew, Jennifer, Nicole and Joey. He leaves many close, cherished and dear friends.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI, followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 12 Spruce Street, Providence, RI. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston, RI. VISITING HOURS: Wednesday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George L.
