John McAuley Obituary

McAULEY, JOHN J. of Pelham, suddenly on November 28, 2007

John was a witty, erudite, gregarious man of many interests, who was taken from us much too soon.

He spent more than two decades doing economic forecasting at several Wall Street firms, including Chemical Bank, Wrightson Associates and Wilkenson Boyd. He taught economics at Fordham University, where he received the Bene Merenti award and also taught at Pace University. He is the author of two economics textbooks.

John joined Dow Jones Newswires in 2000. His Big Picture column provided original insights on all matters pertaining to the economy in a clear and often witty manner.

He was an avid sailor and past Commodore of Huguenot Yacht Club and a member of the New York Athletic Club.

Born on November 2, 1947 in Gardiner, MA he grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island. Proud of his New England roots he was a Boston Red Sox fan and delighted at their World Series victory. He received a degree in Economics from Manhattan College and a PhD from Fordham University.

John is survived by his wife Kathy and son Matt.

Dear Sally - I am so sorry about the loss of your brother, especially so suddenly. Having lost a brother the same way, I know how difficult it is. Please know that you and John's wife and son are in my heart and my prayers. I am here for you - just call!

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
