Lawrence was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Suttons Bay, the son of Lawrence Albert Kolarik and Mary Korson. On Nov. 10, 1936, in Suttons Bay, he married Bertha Isabella Priest, who preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 2003.
Lawrence was a farmer and fruit grower most of his life. He also worked for the Leelanau County Road Commission for many years.
He had the incredible mechanical mind of an engineer. Lawrence was able to build anything to solve complicated mechanical problems.
A few of the things he engineered and built were a special wheel chair lift for his wife, a front-wheel drive mower, a front-end mounted snow blower for a tractor and countless other engineering feats.
Lawrence's faith was strong; he prayed at least three rosaries every day. He was the most honorable man you would ever meet. He firmly believed that whatever happened in life was supposed to happen and just handle it.
Lawrence is survived by his sons, Gordon (Shigeko), Vernon (Connie) and Ray (Anita) Kolarik; his daughters, Margaret Tarsa, Ruth Weinert and Regina (Bob) Livingston; 29 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, JoAnn Kolarik; sisters, Anna Houdek and Emma Solem; and a brother, Martin Kolarik.
Visitation will be held today, Sept. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 5 p.m. and the rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The Mass will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Parish in Suttons Bay. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Suttons Bay.
Memorials may be directed to Mass Intentions, Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Road, Dept. 9662, Coconut Creek, FL 33073 and/or to Grand Traverse Right to Life, PO Box 5416, Traverse City, MI 49696.
Arrangements are with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.

I am going to miss Lawrence. He was always pleasant and and had something to say. I loved the fact that no matter what meal I saw him at he always had toast. Just can't break those bohemian habits.
Margaret always felt a kin to him because of the connection in the St. Wenceslaus and Gills Pier community. She was concerned if he didn't come in for a meal.
He is another one in our family gone, we will soon be the older generation.
I am going to miss seeing him each week.
