Jean Hughes Obituary
Jean Hinton Hughes, 85, of Marion, died Monday, August 11, 2008, at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Va. She was born September 7, 1922, a daughter of the late John Grant Hinton and Beatrice Parker Hinton. Jean was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and following her marriage moved to Virginia in 1949. She was a lover of books and music. Throughout her life she shared that love with her family, friends and the members of the Hunting Creek Baptist Church where she served for many years as church librarian, church secretary, choir member and principal of Vacation Bible School. She was a member of Liberty Chapter #109 of the Order of the Eastern Star who will conduct graveside rites. Jean will be remembered as an artistic lady who loved to create beauty through painting, clay sculpture, cake decorating, and needlework. Her family and the beloved Hunting Creek Library Committee will always cherish the memory of her steady presence, her sound advice and her quiet faith. In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Earl Cavil Hughes. She will live on in the memories of her two daughters, Beatrice "Betsy" Hughes Hall and husband, Kenneth D. Hall, of Marion, Va., and Margaret "Margie" Hughes Anderson and husband, David K. Anderson, of Big Island; five grandchildren, Melissa Hall Scott and husband, Ric Scott, of Roanoke, Mark Cavil Hall and wife, Emily, of Virginia Beach, Karin Elisabeth Anderson, Johanna Beatrice Anderson and Liesel Jean Anderson, all of Big Island; and one greatgrandchild, Christopher Cavil Hall.
