Evelyn Carter Obituary

Evelyn Burkett Carter, 87, of Rich Valley, Va., passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va. She was born June 14, 1921. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carl Carter Sr.; parents, Jim and Carrie Burkett; three brothers, Dougan Burkett, Buddy Burkett and Junior Burkett; five sisters, Katherine Thomas, Nell Hess, Eva Kegley, "Sis" Sprouse and Dean Mercer. She is survived by three sons, H.C. Carter Jr. and wife, Valerie, of Chilhowie, Va., Dennis Gale Carter and wife, Mitzi, of Chilhowie, Va., and Danny Ray Carter and wife, Tammy, of Oceanside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Tim Carter, Todd Carter, Dennis Carter Jr., Daniel Carter, Alison Kestner, Chrissy Carter and Nikki Hawkins; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. The burial will follow in the Ridgedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service or at Mrs. Carter's home in Rich Valley, 906 Ridge Road, on Thursday afternoon and evening, August 14, 2008. Pallbearers will be Daniel Carter, Daniel Kestner, Erik Hawkins, Dennis Carter Jr., Tim Carter, Todd Carter and Zac Carter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Religious Education Program at Rich Valley Elementary School, 196 Long Hollow, Saltville, Va. 24370, Attention: Mrs. Taylor. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Va., is serving the Carter family.

Dear Family,
I am so sorry of the passing of Mrs. Carter. She was a wonderful person. I took care of her for several years here at Valley Health Care when she first came here. She was always kind and a sweet spirit. I am praying for the family in this difficult time.
