Calvin McDowell Obituary

Calvin G. McDowell, 59, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Monday, August 11, 2008. Calvin was born in Roanoke, Va., and was a United States Marine Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Sherri; his mother, Ruth; and three daughters, Kellee Barbour, Melissa Washeck and Crystal Franklin; a sister, Jane Metts; a sister-in-law, Sarah Coburn, and three grandchildren, Kaylee Franklin, Anson and Makenna Washeck; and loving dog, Tucker. Calvin is best known for his love for politics and his entrepreneurial spirit. He founded and successfully ran Frame One Corporation in Roanoke for nearly 20 years. Calvin's love for politics began at an early age when he started the Young Republicans and the UN for Youth. He always had fervor for life and people naturally migrated toward him. He spent many years working intimately with the Reagan campaign and received letters thanking him for making the campaign and years in office a success. In addition, he was the Advance Liaison for President Ford at the Republican National Conventions and other events. For those who knew Calvin, they would attest that when he was helping others and making a difference he would truly come alive. Calvin also had a love for God and his church in Tarpon Springs, Fla., where he was inspirational and had a contagious enthusiasm that enabled him to lead and help the church in numerous ways. He had a love for his family and his dog, Tucker. He loved having his family around him and always wanted to share his passions with them. He enjoyed sharing his experiences and ensuring they had the best. His generosity toward others is a legacy he has left with his children. A day to celebrate his life will be 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008, at Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va. A graveside service will follow. Calvin led an eventful life influencing and investing in others. His life has touched many people and he will truly be missed.

Dearest McDowell Family,
I'm not sure if you will remember me, but I lived next door to you on Lafayette Blvd. Some of my favorite memories of there and growing up are of playing with Calvin on the swings, him trying to teach me to ride his bike and our daily sessions in the corner during the second grade. I will always cherish growing up with Calvin and with you all. You will all be in my prayers and thoughts always and especially during this time.
