Gordon Winbery Obituary

Gordon Henry Winbery, 76, of Christiansburg, passed away suddenly August 15, 2008 after several months of declining health. Gordon was a CPA, and well known in Blacksburg and Christiansburg. He was a member of the Rotary and of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. Mr. Winbery was born in Texas on February 21, 1932 to the late John Vernon and Gladys Winbery. He is survived by his wife, Annell Bell Winbery; son, Mark "Tad" McDonald Winbery, of Centreville; brother-in-law, Dr. George M. Bell, of Salem; sister-in-law, Barbara Bell, of Salem; nephew, Ashley Bell, of Richmond; nieces, Sarah Bell, of Salem, and Cecelia Angleberger and spouse, Tom, of Ironto; and great-nephews, Charlie and Oscar Angleberger, both of Ironto. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Horne Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David A. Goodpasture officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068. The family is being served by Horne Funeral Service. Although no one will know me I had the honor of meeting Mr. Winbery, many years ago when my niece worked for him. her name was Sylena Smith. Your husband and Father was a good person and always spent time making people laugh. I admired him very much. He also came to Sylena wedding.
