Dixie Whittaker Obituary

Dixie Louise Whittaker, of Roanoke County, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Richfield Retirement Center in Salem. She was born in Roanoke on May 16, 1952, and was the daughter of Art and Claudine Whittaker. Dixie was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Whittaker Mitchell, and was a former employee of Goodwill Industries. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Arthur and his wife, Robin, of Albemarle, N.C.; a niece, Ashley Whittaker; and three nephews, Jimmy Whittaker, Ben and Cameron Whitley. Dixie was a member of the Cave Spring United Methodist Church. She was a loving person who enjoyed music and time spent with two special caregivers, Shirley Slone and Martha Reedy. No flowers, please. A private family memorial service will be held, with memorial contribution suggestions being Richfield Recovery Care Center, P.O. Box 3240, Salem, Va. 24153 or Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825-A Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
