Thomas Reed Obituary

Thomas Edward Reed, 50, of Hardy, Va., passed to Heaven on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. He was born on June 23, 1958, and was the beloved son of Mildred Saunders and the late James (Dinky) Reed. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lori Huffman Reed; sons, Ian Thomas Reed and Cole Harrison Reed, of Hardy, Va. He is also survived by his son, Austin Moyer, of Cookeville, Tenn.; brother, Jerry L. Reed; sister, Peggy Reed Kesler; mother-in-law, Bonnye Billings Huffman; sister and brotherin-law, Melissa Huffman Anderson and Dennis Anderson; and nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Jennifer, Stephanie, Brittany and Christa. Tom could repair anything and enjoyed working with his hands and was so good at it. He loved his yard work and tractor, he loved taking care of his home and loved being at home with his family. He loved classic rock music and Hawaii. He also loved the lake, water skiing and camping as a young man. He has been involved in auto repair with his family for 35 years and part owner of Reed's Automotive Inc. He lives in our hearts forever and will be terribly missed. Tom, Lori, Ian and Cole spent their 20th Anniversary in Hawaii and it was awesome. Dad, we loved fishing with you and listening to Van Halen with you. In lieu of flowers and in Tom's memory, donations or volunteering at or to an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Help Program would be greatly appreciated. "One random act of kindness can change someone's life." The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008, with the tribute and celebration service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

To the Reed Family,

We were deeply saddened to learn of Tom's passing. We know that he was a truly decent man-- a beloved son, brother, husband and father. Being friends and customers, we ourselves were fortunate to have known him for the time we did. Please accept our condolences (although somewhat belated). This must be a very difficult time for everyone.
It is not easy to find words which convey our mutual feelings of sorrow. You are all in our hearts and in our thoughts. We offer sympathy and prayers to the whole family.

God Bless,

With love from
Patricia, Byron and James

Jerry, Peggy & Family,
We were very saddened to hear about Tom. We all will remember Tom's laugh and his smile and how he liked the family get togethers at the lake. We know, with the Lord's help, you and your families will be able to make it through this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!

LORI, IAN & COLE, THIS HASN'T BEEN AN EASY TIME FOR US ALL, AND AS ONE WHO LOVES AND CARES ABOUT EACH OF YOU, I WISH I COULD SOMEHOW SPARE US ALL THE PAIN OR CUSHION THIS BLOW. BUT IT SEEMS THAT WE EACH HAVE OUR OWN ROADS TO TRAVEL IN LIFE. SOMETIMES ITS SMOOTH AND SOMETIMES ITS ROUGH. BUT THROUGH IT ALL, WE ARE A REMARKABLE FAMILY AND WE JUST NEED TO HOLD ONTO EACH OTHER AS WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE AND EVEN TIGHTER IN OUR DAYS AHEAD. THANK YOU FOR BEING A GREAT WIFE AND SONS TO MY BROTHER, YOU WERE THE HIGHLIGHT TO HIS LIFE. LOVE, PEGGY
