Edward Gilbert Obituary

Edward John Gilbert, 64, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2008, after a long illness. He was born in Riverside, New Jersey on September 27, 1943, and was the son of the late Thomas Martin and Constance Marie Whitworth Gilbert. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Martin Gilbert Jr.; and two sisters, Dorothy Jane Noeling and Rose Marie Strocen. He served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Blockade, worked in a number of jobs, including chef for Marriott Hotels and several foreign embassies in Washington, the cafeteria at Celanese Acetate in Narrows, manager of a health spa, a property owner in Narrows and starting in 1997, owned and operated Creekside Laundry. He is survived by a brother, Harry Gilbert, of Delmar, Delaware; five nieces, Margaret (Maggie) Mirenda, of Reading, Pennsylvania, Dorothy J. Paschall, of Boyertown, Pennsylvania, Loretta Young, of Tampa, Florida, Rebecca Whitfield, of Camden, New Jersey, Jacqueline Martin, of Laurel, Delaware; one nephew, Kenneth Gilbert, of Westmont, New Jersey; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including Vincent and Thelma Moliterno, Debbie Hill, Tommy and Loretta Tickle, Jason Tickle, Michael Tickle, Pam Tickle, Michael Tickle Jr., Michelle Tickle, Angel Daugherty, Tex Wilson; and two beloved pets, Ginger and Angel. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 21, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service, in Narrows. Burial will be private.
